Bryan T. HarrisonBrian T. Harrison – Vice President Sugar Technology

Brian Harrison, Vice President of Technology at Imperial Sugar Company, is steeped in just about every aspect of the sugar refining business. Today, he focuses on the company’s future business and technology activities. Drawing from his deep experience, Harrison is in charge of the $200M+ reconstruction of Imperial Sugar’s Port Wentworth, Georgia, refinery damaged in a 2008 explosion.

As technology head, Harrison leads initiatives to improve the company’s sugar processing and packaging. These include manufacturing process improvements, developing alternative supply sources for refineries and assessing potential acquisitions. Many new technologies, safety enhancements and process improvements are being built into the Port Wentworth facility – such as solar power for operating the packaging house.

Harrison joined the sugar industry straight out of college, where he earned degrees in business and sugar cane technology. An active member of Sugar Industry Technologists (SIT), he has presented four papers at SIT conferences and has served as president of the organization.

Since he joined Imperial Sugar in 1980, Harrison has worked in a number of roles – including process engineer, refinery manager and vice president of operations. In his last role, he was responsible for the company’s four cane refineries in Texas, Louisiana, Florida and Georgia.
