Heritage Dr. Pepper … It’s New!

image_heritagedrpepper3Just like the relaunched Pepsi Throwbacks, the new Heritage Dr. Pepper is branded as featuring “real sugar … and it’s showing up on store shelves around the country. So … what’s the big deal?!

It is another sign of the move back to pure cane sugar in beverages, replacing artificial sweeteners … and that is a big deal in America’s soft drink industry. It signals that consumers prefer the taste of real sugar.

I am very happy about the “real sugar” Dr. Pepper.
Just last year my wife got me some from Dublin.
    I’ve been a pepper since 1966.
    Here’s my worry:
Glucose, a part of “sugar”, can be absorbed directly into the bloodstream from the mouth. Fructose takes it’s time to get to the liver to be metabolized.
Problem— Satisfaction with sugar is immediate.
There is no need for a second Dr. Pepper.
Even though we love the sugar, sales will decline and we’ll be back on fructose. — I hope not!

I love the Heritage Dr. Pepper. I love being able to get it close to home. I think it tastes better than the Dr. Pepper sweetened with high fructose corn syrup. Persons with allegies to corn can drink sodas again. One of my friends in college could not drink soda because of a corn allergy!!! Hope that Heritage DP is around for a long time.

  3. Tammy says:

I like what Kenny said. I find the Heritage Dr. Pepper more satisfying.

  4. George Muller says:

    Tammy,

What you say is music to our ears. I personally know what you mean about the huge difference in taste between sugar and high fructose corn syrup, and I prefer sodas sweetened with pure cane sugar.

I LOVE the Heritage DR PEPPER !!! Just like the Dr Pepper i grew up drinking in to 60′s .. This is the drink that got me HOOKED . I don’t drink anything else but Dr Pepper.
    Hope it stays this time..

  6. Tim says:

I just enjoyed my first Dr Pepper made with sugar in years!

I really like the sugar version; now wondering what to do with my stockpile of HFCS cans…

Hope the Heritage Dr Pepper stays as an option; after all Dr Pepper/Snapple has so many Dr Pepper varieties now why not keep this one?

  7. camryn says:

i got to lookinga this and realized im the only teenager to post anything on here, me and my boyfriend are ADDICTED to the new dr pepper. we dont normally drink stuff that isnt real like normal sodas because of the fake ingrediants and chemicals but this dr pepper along with the throwback drinks are so much better than the normal versions ive had before. i really want it to stay on the market.

  8. Brian says:

Noticing, that this seems to be a Imperial Sugar Company industry website is there anyone who could tell me if this Heritage Dr. Pepper has Imperial Pure Cane Sugar like the Dublin version that does, although Heritage DP does not mention it. If it does have I.P.C.Sugar would this also mean that Pepsi Throwback/ Mountain Dew Throwback are also most likely using I.P.C.Sugar as well? Being that since Pepsi bottlers that also distribute Dr. Pepper in their market are selling the Heritage Dr. Pepper? Any Info appreciated.

  9. George Muller says:

    Brian

Thank you for your question. The Heritage brand is not exclusive to Imperial pure cane sugar. We are very excited about the transition from HFCS to sugar as an ingredient. We hope all our customers will try the Dr. Pepper bottled in Dublin Texas with the Imperial logo on the bottle. I think everyone will like the taste – I sure do.

    George

  10. I can say that “Dublin” Dr Pepper and Heritage DP are both better than hfcs DP but “Dublin” is the winner as it is smoother. Must be the cane sugar. Did a side by side test with a couple friends and we all picked “Dublin” first, HDP second and the other a distant third. After the case of HDP is gone, I will only drink “Dublin” and continue to order it and support them. It rules.

  11. Allie says:

Anyone know where you can buy the Heritage Dr Pepper in Illinois? I can’t find it anywhere!

  12. dj says:

Just tried Heritage DP today for the first time. I was a DP drinker from the earliest days of my childhood in east Texas, but quit drinking it when they started using HFCS. I hated the flavor change, so I switched to Coke. When I got this new bottle of HDP and tasted it, I could close my eyes and be a boy again. I LOVE IT! It reminds me of what DP *should* taste like. Way to go DP!!!

  13. dj says:

Oh, I forgot to mention that it was great finding it here in Cleveland, OH!

  14. George Muller says:

Glad you and others can find this popular drink in Ohio. Clearly, this trend back to sugar as a natural sweetener in soft drinks is growing.

  15. DeVon says:

I love the Heritage Dr Pepper, as of today 2/18/10 could not find it in any local store. I really hope you continue to make & put in the local stores. I was an avid COKE drinker all my life & when I tried the Heritage Dr Pepper I was hooked I do not want any thing else COKE is not even a close 2nd, PLEASE cont to make & sell. Someone said I could order from the Company in Texas, but how much will I have to pay for the drinks + shipping because I purchase at least 6 to 10; 12 packs a week….really hope you continue HERITAGE DR PEPPER for all of your happy customers.

  16. Todd McNeel says:

Happy to see all the positive comments on Heritage and Dublin Dr Pepper. It is nice to be able to work on a project that helps both my current and former employers.

Heritage is planned as a limited time product, but if it has great success in the market, it could become permanent, so drink up !

  17. John says:

I’ve been enjoying Heritage DP in Virginia for several weeks now. I grew up on Dr. Pepper going back to the mid-1950′s, but I haven’t liked the thick, HFCS version of it. Heritage DP does not overpower you. The individual flavors come through, and it’s wonderful and refreshing. I’m sick of HFCS being put in everything we eat and drink.

  18. George Muller says:

    John,

Thanks for the note. I don’t think you are alone — it appears many share your same perspective.

    George

  19. Dawn says:

I think the new Heritage Dr Pepper is fabulous. This is the only soda I drink and was hesitant to try something new but I am glad I did. I hope they don’t stop making it. I was actually very disappointed that the store I bought my first bottle from was sold out when I stopped in for more. I think I’m going to go get one now…

  20. Dawn,

Thank you for taking time to share your comment. This is sweet music to our ears because Imperial Sugar supplies to pure cane sugar for Dr. Pepper, and we are proud of our relationship with the legendary brand.

I suspect that demand for soft drinks sweetened with cane sugar is behind the shortage you encountered … but imagine they will be restocked soon.

    Thanks, again!

    George

  21. Greg A. says:

It’s not cane sugar… it’s beet sugar. That’s why it tastes different from Dublin. (still better than HFCS, of course!)

  22. Jonathan W says:

Very disappointed that Heritage DP is not sold in North Carolina.

  23. Jessica says:

    Hi,
I did some looking around online and you can buy Dublin Dr. Pepper online here:
    http://www.olddocs.com/

You might also look at the Heritage Dr. Pepper Facebook page. I didn’t read all the comments but lots of people are searching for the Dublin and Heritage DP’s. You might find some additional leads there.
    Cheers!

  24. Keith says:

Living in Sugar Land, TX I’ve gotten kind of used to being able to get Dr. Pepper with Imperial Pure Cane Sugar even before the Heritage Dr. Pepper promotion. Last May I moved up to West Houston to take care of my parents but every month I’d drive down to Sugar Land to stock up on Dr. Pepper. Last month all I could find were the 12-packs of 12 oz. cans, no plastic bottles. This month I can’t even find those and no space on the shelves where they might be sold out. Please tell me they haven’t stopped making the stuff? I’d prefer to stick with Dr. Pepper but I’ll switch to Jones Soda before I go back to drinking HFCS.
