Imperial Sugar Legal Team Wins Prestigious Award

Imperial Sugar Senior Vice President and General Counsel Louis Bolognini with Kirsten Cohoon, Assistant General Counsel

Imperial Sugar Senior Vice President and General Counsel Louis Bolognini was recently recognized by the Houston Business Journal’s Best Corporate Counsel Awards.

Held at the Houston Intercontinental Hotel, the ceremony, which took place before an audience of 350 legal professionals, honored Bolognini for his role in leading the ISC legal team through the issues generated by the 2008 fire and explosion at Imperial’s Port Wentworth refinery. Lou and Kirsten Cohoon, Assistant General Counsel, were honored by nominations in several categories, with Lou being given the award for the Most Complex Issues category.

“This has been a total team effort,” said Bolognini, who joined Imperial Sugar four months after the accident. “This incident has involved a multitude of issues that required the time and talents of a number of Imperial officers and other personnel who have all contributed to the recovery of Imperial Sugar Company .”

“This is well-deserved recognition for Lou as well as for Kirsten Cohoon, who was also nominated,” said Imperial Sugar CEO John Sheptor. “Their efforts on behalf of the company will help us be better positioned as we move forward.”
