Wholesome Sweeteners in DC; Next Stop is San Fran.

DC 05The nation’s premier sustainability event, the Green Festival™ took place the weekend of October 10th and 11th in Washington, D.C., and Wholesome Sweeteners was there, helping celebrate what’s working in our communities—for people, business and the environment.

A joint project of Global Exchange and Green America, the Green Festival™ is like a walk through a sustainable community. It begins with finding solutions to help make lives healthier—socially, economically and environmentally. Individuals, along with business and community leaders, come together to discuss critical issues that impact all of us, whether at home or abroad. Organizations and businesses showcase programs and products that restore the planet and all that inhabit it. Neighbor-to-neighbor connections are formed, and skills are shared to empower people to create positive change in the world.

“The Green Festivals are so much fun for us, because they offer us a chance to meet face-to-face with consumers,” says Karen Stevenson, Communications Manager for Wholesome Sweeteners. “We find that they’re concerned about what they’re feeding their families as well as possible impacts on the environment. They care about social justice. They’re really informed. They ask great questions and, of course, expect intelligent answers. It’s heartening to see that environmentally and socially responsible values are moving toward the mainstream.”

Wholesome-Products-260x147In line with the Green Festival’s commitment to sustainability, Wholesome is recognized as the pioneer in the certification process for Fair Trade CertifiedTM sugar and honey and is the category leader in Fair Trade Certified, organic and natural sugars, syrups, nectars and honeys produced from nature’s best resources.

The Green Festival™ is the only green event that screens exhibitors for their commitment to sustainability, ecological balance and social justice using Green America’s green business standards. The festival features more than 125 renowned authors, leaders and educators; great how-to workshops; cutting-edge films; fun activities for kids; organic beer and wine; delicious vegetarian cuisine and diverse live music. There’s also a marketplace of more than 350 eco-friendly businesses—everything from all-natural body care products and organic cotton clothing to Fair Trade gifts and beautiful kitchen tiles made from renewable resources.
