Rains Don’t Dampen Gramercy Family Day Picnic

Continuing a company tradition stretching back at least 40 years, Imperial Sugar’s Gramercy Refinery in Louisiana hosted Family Day Picnic on October 4th, welcoming nearly 200 employees, retirees and contractors to the annual event at Lutcher Park.

Despite the rainy weather, spirits were sunny as attendees played bingo and kids whooped it up in the inflatable Chuggy Chuggy Choo Choo and giant slide.

“Everybody enjoyed themselves,” said Charmaine Ordeneaux, administrative assistant at the refinery. “Retirees especially like coming to the event to stay in touch and see everybody’s families.”

Door prizes abounded, including 5 gift cards from Coastal Ventures, Inc., and gifts from nearby St. James Nursery and Roussel Antiques. Plant Manager Raylene Carter welcomed associates and their families, many of whom she was meeting for the first time. Imperial CEO John Sheptor, along with his wife and son, were also on hand, as were George Muller (VP Administration) and Ralph Clements (VP Manufacturing and Engineering), with their spouses.

Guests received canvas tote bags filled with first-aid kits, traveler’s mugs and pens, all emblazoned with the Imperial Sugar crown logo. Complimentary products, including Cinnamon Sugar Shakers and Redi-Measure brown sugar packets, were also handed out to eager participants.

“Nobody left hungry, that’s for sure,” laughed Tracy Dicharry, Senior HR Administrator, who was in charge of organizing the event. “We had more than 50 pounds of fresh jambalaya and white beans, along with lots of hamburgers, hot dogs, gourmet cookies and Blue Bell ice cream. We’re just sorry the weather didn’t cooperate, but everyone still had a great time.”
