U.S. Sugar Expects 6.4 Million Ton Cane Harvest

cane sugarU.S. Sugar Corp. kicked off Florida’s 2009-10 sugar cane harvest early Thursday and will begin processing the first railcars of cane at the Clewiston (Florida) Sugar Factory today, writes Susan Salisbury for the Palm Beach Post.

“The drought broke in May, and with more normal rainfall over the summer growing season, we are anticipating a slightly better crop than the weather-shortened crops of the last few years,” said Judy Sanchez, director of corporate communications for U.S. Sugar Corporation.
