A Rainbow over Port Wentworth

Many of us love the sight of a rainbow. Perhaps it harkens back to our youth and the wish for good luck. Whenever we spot a rainbow, we seem to stop whatever we’re doing and look in wonder. Every once in a while, someone takes a fabulous photo of a rainbow, like this photo by Warren Sepolen of The Dennis Group (DGL), a design, engineering and general construction management firm that’s been working on reconstruction of the Imperial Sugar bulk station and packaging building at Port Wentworth, Ga.
Warren shared these impressions of that magic moment:
I was fortunate to capture this image following the afternoon’s refreshing monsoon shower. What caught my eye were the three elements of the view: the “double” rainbow, the size and the intense color. From our perspective, the main rainbow appeared as a complete arch, with the ends at least a mile apart, against a blue grey sky.
The red, yellow and green bands were shimmering above the Imperial Port Wentworth Plant, and I felt that this was a picture worth saving.
My goal was to position and compose an image with one of its ends touching the new Bulk Sugar Station dust collection system.
My task was to coordinate and manage Safety activities for our phases of construction for more than 2000 contractors from February through September of this year. We worked on reconstruction of the Imperial Sugar bulk station and the magnificent new packaging building. Our safety team was composed of four DGL safety engineers during this period.
Primary activities included contractor Safety Orientations, Site Inspections, and Weekly Safety Audits. To accomplish these tasks, we use OSHA Construction Standards, adapt Imperial Safety Rules and execute Dennis Group Construction Requirements.
Rainbows are refreshing reminders of the wonders and beauties of nature, light prism science experiments, childhood fairy tales and the Wizard of Oz. Each of us would treasure the opportunity of seeing such a spectacular event, and I think we all would like to think that at this rainbow’s end is Imperial Sugar’s future prosperity.
We greatly appreciate Warren sharing this beautiful photograph with us and applaud him and his colleagues at The Dennis Group for their outstanding expertise.
