Imperial Sugar’s 4 CBT Training Modules
isc | Aug 25, 2009
Four CBT training modules are being tailored specifically for Imperial’s operations to address the risks of sugar dust.
Module 1: “Working Safely Around Sugar Dust” is designed for all office employees, contractors, and unaccompanied visitors. It explains the fundamentals of how dust explosions can be created and avoided. Basic precautions common in all ISC operations are highlighted – including requirements for special, static-dissipative safety shoes.
Module 2: “Working Safely Around Sugar Dust for Plant Operations,” is currently being prepared for CBT format. This in-depth, practical offering is being honed for operators, maintenance employees and other plant support personnel. All general plant requirements associated with safe dust management are being integrated. Instructions will address proper cleaning techniques, proper selection and use of tools, and how to report problems or concerns.
Module 3: “Preventative Maintenance Techniques for Reducing Sugar Dust Risks” will follow Module 2. This detailed offering is designed for maintenance employees, facilities engineers, and applicable contractors. It will address the detailed requirements for safely maintaining various pieces of equipment including dust collectors, screw conveyors, bucket conveyors, forklifts, and local exhaust systems. Among other things, the instruction will teach participants to: establish safe electrical grounds, diagnose symptoms of overheating, and avoid creation of sparks and friction.
Module 4: “Identification and Control of Sugar Dust Risks” is a classroom course led by dust consultant specialists, Chilworth Technologies. This in-depth technical training provides instruction about the scientific principles and control techniques critical to understanding and avoiding dust fires and explosions.
